Graduation information

High School & Beyond Plan

Each student will complete a High School and Beyond Plan as part of the Washington State high school graduation requirements. Battle Ground Virtual Academy counselors help students complete this plan together.

The High School and Beyond Plan includes interest surveys, career research, goal setting, course selection for high school, resume and references creation and post-secondary planning.

What is the High School and Beyond Plan?

The high school and beyond plan is a state mandated requirement that all seniors in the state of Washington must complete in order to graduate.  Each student must have a HSBP to guide students' high school experience and prepare the student for postsecondary education or training & career. Students start their plan in seventh or eighth grade and then continue to revise them throughout high school to accommodate changing interests or educational career goals.

What is the purpose of the HSBP?

The HSBP may provide students with the opportunity to explore their own skills and interests and discover potential career and educational options. The personalized plan helps to connect career interests with courses and courses with career pathways on college majors. The plan helps students identify the steps needed to reach postsecondary goals. Students should be encouraged to take ownership over their high school experience and choose coursework and activities that are relevant to their goals. The HSBP also provides a means of tracking requirements for graduation from high school and entry into postsecondary programs and careers.

Who, What, Where and When?

School counselors will work with all students through an already created google classroom. Counselors have also provided a self directed worksheet that has been shared in the google classroom in an assignment to work on. ALL students including, Running Start & Cascadia Technical Academy students, will work with staff to complete the plan. Students' plans must be reviewed and approved.

Other high school options

Change to graduation recognition for the class of 2028 and beyond

Students take many different academic paths in high school, from career/technical classes to Advanced Placement to Running Start and more. In recognition of the many ways that students achieve academic success, Battle Ground Public Schools plans to expand recognitions at high school graduations starting with the class of 2028 (eighth graders in 2023-24). Each high school will recognize the top 5% based on GPA during graduation ceremonies. Although schools will not designate a valedictorian and salutatorian, class rankings will continue to be available as needed for scholarships and other purposes. Learn more.
